Chicken wing dip – a football season favorite around my house.
I love making it because it is so simple.
Since I made the switch to really being aware of what is in the food I eat, and thus put into my body, when I looked at the normal ingredients I used to but in my chicken wing dip, I knew I had to change it!
First off, I had to switch out the cream cheese. Not only is it high in fat, but it really doesn’t provide any nutritional value. Instead of cream cheese I used organic cottage cheese. To be specific, I used Good Culture Organic Cottage Cheese. Regular cream cheese has about 9 grams of fat, while the cottage cheese I used has 4 grams.
As for protein, the organic cottage cheese I used contained 14 grams of protein while cream cheese only has 2 grams.

Instead of ranch dressing (which I realized is not good for you at all) I used garlic powder, onion powder, and organic sour cream (Organic Valley Sour Cream, Low Fat). I was shocked when I really looked at what goes into ranch dressing. For example, growing up my family has always bought hidden valley ranch dressing. Hidden Valley Ranch dressing contains: Vegetable Oil (Soybean and/or Canola), Water, Sugar, Salt, Nonfat Buttermilk, Egg Yolk, Natural Flavors, Less than 1% of: Spices, Garlic (Dried), Onion (Dried), Vinegar, Phosphoric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Modified Food Starch, Monosodium Glutamate, Artificial Flavors, Disodium Phosphate, Sorbic Acid and Calcium Disodium EDTA Added to Preserve Freshness, Disodium Inosinate & Guanylate. WOAH – all that in a salad dressing?? First off, it has soybean oil and canola??? Second, sugar??? I should just stop right there.

In the Organic Valley Sour Cream, the only ingredients are Organic Cultured Pasteurized Nonfat Milk, Organic Pasteurized Cream, Organic Rice Starch, Acidophilus and Bifidus Cultures, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vegetarian Enzyme. The sour cream has 30 calories per 2 tbsp and ranch dressing has 140 calories per 2 tbsp. The ranch dressing has a whopping 14 grams of fat while the sour cream only has 2 grams.
Now that you see why I made the changes I did, I hope you will not only enjoy this chicken wing dip, but also feel good while/and after eating it 🙂
