Dragon Fruit and Strawberry Açaí Bowl

Ever since I had my first açaí bowl a few months ago I have been obsessed!
They are so delicious and the health benefits of them are amazing! (not to mention they look so pretty)
This is my rendition of the famous Brazilian dish Açaí na tigela 🙂

So….What exactly are Açaí Bowls?

Açaí bowls come from the Brazilian dish Açaí na tigela. From what I’ve found, the original recipe is very simple with only a few ingredients, the main one of course being Açaí.

The açaí berry is a reddish-purple fruit. It comes from the acai palm tree, which is native to Central and South America.

They have an earthy taste that’s often described as a cross between blackberries and unsweetened chocolate.

Fresh acai berries have a short shelf life and aren’t available outside of where they are grown. As an export, they are sold as a frozen fruit purée, dried powder or pressed juice.

Açaí berries have an incredibly high amount of antioxidants

-Thanks to this high antioxidant content, acai berries have many potential health benefits.

They’re loaded with powerful plant compounds that act as antioxidants and could have benefits for your brain, heart and overall health.

I chose to try out a dragon fruit and strawberry açaí bowl. I wanted to do this mainly because I had some extra frozen dragon fruit in the freezer, and because I thought it would pair well with açaí powder! Dragon fruit is also high in vitamin C, which is a great boost for the immune system. PLUS, it is high in fiber, so it helps with digestion!

I added some strawberries in there as well, and chose to top it with even more strawberries and blueberries. I always have to add some granola in there for a crunchy taste. Of course, I also had to add some coconut flakes because they are so good for you!(A great source of fiber, iron, and zinc!)

I added nut and seed butter as a healthy protein to my bowl! You could use protein powder or whey powder instead.
What I love about açaí bowls is that there are so many different combinations of toppings and ingredients! I look forward to experimenting with different recipes and creating more bowls 🙂
